5/6th Girls Division [standings]

The Lady Tar Heels (0-5) started out the day in familiar territory. In week #1, Da Champs took the ‘Heels into double overtime and this week looked to be going down that path again. However, with the game tied midway through the 4th quarter, the Tar Heels finally broke away and finished with a 14-8 victory.

This was the Tar Heels doubleheader day. Their 2nd game was not as tightly contested as the 1st and the 0-3 Sky fell to the ‘Heels 18-4.

The Benjamite Wolves won 12-11 today, earning their 1st win of the season vs the Mt Sinai Big Ten. The Wolves will take on the Sky next Saturday as both teams work to improve in the standings as the tournament nears.

The Blasters will head into week #5 looking for win #1.

Scores

Falcons Win 18-17 over the Bluejays

7/8th Boys Division [standings]

The top 2 teams remain the same after the smoke cleared this weekend, but not without some damage done.

The Warriors fought back a tough Nineveh Rebounders team today. The Rebounders came out solid not allowing anything to the Warriors, holding them scoreless in the 1st. However, The Warriors battled back and slowly regained composure before wresting a 28-16 win to remain undefeated. The Warriors stay undefeated but move into the next 2 weeks with games vs the #2 and #3 seeds. A lot can change in 2 weeks.

The big surprise of the week came as the 0-4 Avalanche matched up against the #2 ranked Chiefs. Both the Chiefs and Avalanche have had some bad luck with injuries lately and that factor evened the playing field. In a game very much worth watching (watch it here), the chiefs led by two after 1, and were tied at the half before seemingly starting to pull away after three periods. However, tied at 31 with 2:30 left, the Avalanche nailed a fade away jumper and then an acrobatic floater 20 seconds later to jump up 4 points. The Chiefs were not able to overcome those 20 seconds. The final score was 37-34 giving the Avalanche their 1st win of the year.

The Thunder made out well today. They are 3-1 following a victory over the Bearcats today. While the Bearcats were down a lot at the half they fought back hard, taking the fight late into the game before eventually succumbing 34-28. With the win, The Thunder move into 3rd place. They take on the Warriors in week #5 with a good chance at knocking out the only undefeated team left in 7/8th boys play. The Bearcats dropped from a tie in #3 last week to 5th place this week.

The Damascus Blinders took over the #4 seed this week with a sound 22 point defeat of the Philippian Earthquake. The Earthquake will take on the Avalanche next week.

The Lakers win today keeps them right in the mix. They take on the Chiefs next week in what could be a huge standings shakeup. There will be some very good games to keep an eye on all day long next Saturday.

The few weeks left before the tournament look like they may hold some big surprises. Stay tuned…

Scores:

Thunder Win 34-28 over the Bearcats

Damascus Blinders Win 33-11 over the Philippian Earthquake

Warriors Win 28-16 over the Nineveh Rebounders

Lakers Win 29-18 over the Philippian Earthquake
