The #3 Heat also picked up a 29-9 win over the Hawks to finish their regular season 6-2.

The Fireballs finished the season 7-1 but in a head-to-head matchup against the Wildcats earlier this season they lost 32-11 therefore the Wildcats hold the top seed.

The Average Joes picked up their first win of the day 34-19 over the #4 Athens Athletics.

The Nazareth Carpenters did what they needed to do to set themselves up for the #2 seed with a decisive 31-19 win over the #7 Thunder, but had to wait until the 2nd game of the Average Joes doubleheader to know their final tournament seed.

The Joes won their second game 29-16 over the Bearcats to finish the season 6-2 and lock up the 2nd seed. As a result, the Nazareth Carpenters head into the tournament as the #3 seed.

The #1 Jericho Demolition wrapped up an undefeated regular season with a 44-23 win over the #5 Bucks.

7/8th Boys Division [standings]

The two big games of the day determined the top 4 seeds heading into tournament week.

The undefeated Pacers had the toughest final Saturday we’ve seen in a while. They had a doubleheader against the 7-0 Bearcats followed up with a nightcap against the 7-0 Patriots.

The Bearcats vs Pacers game started out as the battle it was billed as but as the game wore on, the Bearcats slowly took over the game. The ‘Cats finished up with a 39-18 win and an 8-0 record on the year.

The nightcap was a fantastic way to end the regular season. The Pacers and Patriots were neck and neck through the entire game. The first half ended with a floating Jordan-Ehlo-esque shot by the Patriots from 10 feet behind the arch to take a 13-12 lead. The game was tied up 18-18 heading into the 4th and appeared headed for possible OT when the Pacers buried a 3 with 40 seconds to take a 30-28 lead. The Patriots fought back but the Pacers held on to that lead to win the game.

The Bearcats head into the tournament as the #1 seed. The 7-1 Pacers are the #2 seed. The 7-1 Patriots are the #3 seed. Both the Pacers and Patriots outperformed the Cardinals in points scored vs common opponents therefore the ‘Cards head into the tournament as the #4 seed.

In other game news…

The early bird got the worm once again today as the Cardinals took the opening game of the day with a 25-23 scare over the Thunder in Springboro. The Thunder finish the regular season as the 11th seed. As mentioned the Cardinals are #4.

The #5 Crossovers took a much-needed victory with a 37-27 win over the Eagles. The win locked the Crossovers into the 5th seed and fixed the Eagles (3-5) in the #9 seed.

The #8 Nineveh Rebounders also finished the season 3-5 after a 49-19 win over the #12 Hawks. The Rebounders win the tie breaker with the Eagles because of their better record vs common opponents.

The #7 Avalanche buried the #13 Falcons 50-23 to finish 4-4 for the season. Their 4-4 record matches the #6 Philippian Earthquakes .500 season, but the Earthquake beat the Avalanche in their head-to-head game earlier this season to break the tie between the two teams.

The #10 Damascus Blinders (2-6) wrapped up their season early and had a bye today but did not know their fate until today. The #11 Thunder came close to knocking out the Cardinals but fell short. They finished 2-6 but the Blinders bested them in week 6 to win the tie breaker.

The tie between the #12 Hawks and #13 Falcons was determined by their performance vs similar opponents. The Hawks held a slight edge as the regular season closes.

SCORES

Cardinals Win 25-23 over the Thunder

Crossovers Win 37-27 over the Eagles

Avalanche Win 50-23 over the Falcons

Nineveh Rebounder Win 49-19 over Hawks

WEEK #7 – SATURDAY FEBRUARY 19th, 2022

Scroll down for previous weeks scores & highlights

5/6th Girls Division [standings]

This week only saw a few changes in standings, but it sets up a big week 8 finale.

The Pumas toyed with the Lady Sparks to take a 14-3 win and keep a grip on the #1 seed. The Lady Sparks remain in the #3 spot heading into week 8.

The Raptors snuck in through the basement and turned off the breakers so the SBC Sparks could not get started today. The Raptors won 26-2 to stay in the #2 seed. The #2 Raptors take on the #1 Pumas in Week 8 at the Pumas den to determine the regular season #1. Sounds like a little bit of (pre)March Madness!

The Storm blew through the Sky 17-12, advancing to #4 while the Sky stayed at #7.

The Benjamite Wolves outlasted the Bearcats 20-18 to hold onto the 6th seed. Even though the Bearcats lost, their performance helped them in the tie breaker between them and the Sparks. The Bearcats move up one spot to #8. BUT, the Bearcats and the Sparks play each other in week 8 so both teams have a good shot at a win this week!

There is so much to look out for in week #8! A LOT of changes can happen!

SCORES

5/6th Boys Division [standings]

The Wildcats Came out fighting today and got back on the winning track with a 33-10 victory over the Hawks. The Cats are now 6-1 heading into the final week.

The Heat melted the Rockets 19-15 in a close one. The Heat head into the final week at 5-2.

The Fireballs won their 1st game of the day 16-12 over the Eagles. And…. since they had time (and maybe some Redbull?), they made up their postponed game from week 2 and played the Eagles AGAIN!

The 2nd game was just as close AND CLOSER! This one went into Overtime, but once again, the Fireballs took the win 27-26 after the extra period. Both teams put it all out there today.

The Fireballs are gluttons for punishment as they also have a doubleheader in week 8 to make up a week 1 postponement. If the Fireballs can win both or even one of their week 8 games, they will lock themselves into the East #2 heading into the tournament.

SCORES

Wildcats Win 33-10 over the Hawks

Heat Win 19-15 over the Rockets

Fireballs Win 16-12 over the Eagles

Fireballs Win 27-26 over Eagles in OT Week #2 makeup

Soooooo, what happened in the West today? The Athletics won. The Demolition won. The Joes won. The Demolition won. And the Athletics lost. What?

The Jericho Demolition and the Athens Athletics both had doubleheaders today.

The Jericho Demolition picked up 2 wins, beating the Nazareth Carpenters 32-20 and the Athens Athletics 38-21 to remain undefeated with a lock on the West #1 seed regardless of week 8 results.

The Athletics early game 30-13 win over the Thunder gave them a boost of confidence starting out the day, but they were knocked back by the Demolition later on.

The Average Joes came off of a bye week to take on the Bucks. Recall, the Joes edged the Bucks by 1 point a few weeks ago. Fast forward to today, with 44 seconds left, their 25-25 tie was broken by a well timed 3 pointer. That shot was the difference maker as the Bucks couldn’t bounce back. The Joes added 1 foul shot & a final basket to seal the deal.

The final week will be interesting to watch with so much up in the air. While the Demolition are locked in at #1 until the tournament starts, the #2-5 seeds are completely up in the air. The Average Joes have 2 games in week 8 and there is a 3 way tie between the Bucks, Carpenters and Athletics.

Week 8 will be an active one in the standings!

7-9th Girls Division [standings]

The Lady Bone Crushers locked in the #1 seed today with a decisive 22-8 victory over the Crete Storm. The LBC have one more regular season game to play but then their next stop in the tournament will be the Final Four on Friday March 4th.

Up north in Springboro, the Sting took on the Wildcats and the Mt Sinai Big Ten in a doubleheader. The Sting took the fight to the Wildcats but lost on points, losing a 17-9 decision to the ‘Cats. After being softened up by the Wildcats paws, the Sting took on the Big Ten. The Big Ten said “thou shalt not beat us” and they took a 37-15 victory.

The Big Ten victory locks them into the #2 seed regardless of the outcome of week eights game vs the Lady Bone Crushers. They too will play their first tournament game in the Final Four.

The #5 Sting finished up the regular season at 0-8. They have a bye next week and will play their first tournament game against the yet to be determined #4 seed.

The Big game next week will be the #3 Wildcats (3-4) vs #4 Crete Storm (3-4). That game will determine the tournament seed for #3 and #4.

7/8th Boys Division [standings]

It came as no surprise to see change at the top of the standings today. The previous (week 6) #1 Pacers (6-0) had a bye week while the 6-0 Bearcats took on the 6-0 Cardinals, and the 6-0 Patriots took on the 12th seed 0-6 Falcons today.

Early on, the Bearcats vs Cardinals game lived up to its billing as the game of the week. The Bearcats came out punching to take an 11-3 lead off three quick 3s, but the Cards quickly fought back!

At the half it was 15-12. But the Bearcats came out hard to force a 24-15 lead heading into the 4th. The Bearcats kept at it to finish with a 35-24 victory.

Meanwhile…..

The 6-0 Patriots rifled the Falcons 49-16 to stay undefeated and wrestle back into the #1 spot

The Damascus Blinders saved their best game for their final regular season game. The Blinders exploded for 47 points in a shelling of the Hawks this afternoon. They have a planned week 8 bye and finish the season early. Now they wait for the tournament to start.

The Eagles won a nail biter at home 33-32. The Thunder were down at the half, but not ready to be counted out. They fought hard into the 4th quarter. There were multiple lead changes in the final minute until the Eagles finally sunk a shot to put them up by 1 in the final seconds before stealing the inbound pass to seal their victory.

In keeping with close games, Avalanche also squeaked out A 2 point 41-39 victory over the Rebounders.

Finally tonight, the Crossovers won 37-19 to maintain strength over the Earthquake.

7/8th Boys Division [standings]

The game of musical chairs continued at the top of the 7/8th boys division this week. The good news for all four undefeated teams is that none of them will enter the tournament lower than a 4 seed as no other team will be able to get 6 wins by the end of the season.

Currently, the four teams are ranked based on performance vs the 2 competitors they all have in common. That put the Pacers at #1, Bearcats at #2, Cardinals at #3 and Patriots at #4.

There can only be 3 undefeated teams after week 7 because the Cardinals take on the Bearcats so one of the two will have to lose.

Then in Week # 8, the Pacers have a doubleheader against the Bearcats and then the Patriots.

Things are starting to get exciting as we near Bracket Time.

So, recapping today’s events…

The 6-0 Cardinals kicked things off today with a crushing 38-5 defeat of the Hawks.

The Pacers outlasted the aggressive Avalanche press defense to survive 49-38.

The Bearcats overcame the Nineveh Rebounders with an 11-point victory at FCC.

The Patriots got things moving late in the 2nd half to break the half century mark and beat the Damascus Blinders 51-37.

The Philippian Earthquake rocked the Eagles 49-27 to improve to 4-3 and hold tight on the 5th place spot.

The Crossovers picked up a much-needed win with a 40-10 W over the Falcons to climb to #6.

The Damascus Blinders, who lost to the Patriots today did, however, also win the other game of their doubleheader. They beat the Thunder 38-30.

With the Avalanche, Eagles, Thunder & Rebounders all losing today, they are in a 4-way 7th place tie with 2-4 records.

The Blinders are now in 11th place at 1-6. The Falcons (#12) and Hawks (#13) round out the division as they both continue searching for a victory in the next 2 weeks.
